[Kyna has decided this job sucks.
She likes the ones that are faster paced, and this is definitively not. There are three missing people, all too unimportant for the police to focus on, and the guy all signs point to is so secretive that progress has been stilted and shuddering. Her current plan isn't exactly one she's discussed with Sam, but hey, it can't hurt, right? Hopefully.
There's a guy named Fenris that hangs around Danarius all the time, and Sam and Thea are guessing he's some sort of apprentice or assistant. They don't know much else about him, but there's a cafe he likes to hang out at a lot, and Kyna has spent the past two days practically camping out, hoping he'll come in.
Today, she lucks out. When she walks in, he's already there, and she tries not to look like she's rushing as she grabs some ridiculously overpriced drink. It's a little more crowded today than usual, so it doesn't look too weird when she grabs the seat next to him.]
Hey. Is it okay if I sit here?
[Don't fuck this up, Kyna.]

Ever since he defiantly got his entire body tattooed he's been regarding Fenris with a cold demeanor that would send chills down his spine if he were actually afraid of the man. Well, it's inaccurate to say he's entirely unafraid, otherwise he wouldn't be a grown man still indebted to him, still doing his bidding, covering up his tracks for him. There's always a lingering fear of the man he had become, and the unholy research he's doing that even Fenris isn't completely privy to.
Needless to say, when he can get away with it, his breaks last a little longer. The errands he runs are suddenly fraught with misfortune; traffic, slow subway, officers hassling him, which he gets away with as an excuse often considering his state of dress makes him a target for authority figures.
Which is exactly why he's sitting with a black cup of coffee, staring into the dark liquid thinking about what horrible twists and turns his life may take him from here. Will Danarius decide he's no longer worth housing? Is his life in danger? For all he tried to slowly disentangle himself from this life, now that it seems a goal in reach it's...frightening.
When these thoughts are interrupted his lips pull back into a frown, head snapping up to face the intrusion. Before he responds he gives the shop a cursory glance, having not noticed how crowded it got. His eyes roll.]
If I say 'no' are you going to sit anyway?
no subject
Maybe. Does it help if I say I like your tattoos?
no subject
I'll upgrade my 'no' to an 'I don't care', in that case.
no subject
Aww, aren't you sweet. I'm Kyna. Just black coffee, huh?
no subject
Fenris. [He grabs his coffee, glancing into the dark liquid again before taking a sip.] Yes. To keep me awake during stimulating conversations with strangers.

You ask a lot of questions.

[And then, because she can't stop herself, and the best way she knows how to make a situation less awkward is by being silly, she waggles her eyebrows.]
You can ask me questions.
no subject
What do you want?
no subject
I don't know. You seem interesting.
no subject
He leans back in his chair, crossing his arms over his chest.]
Randomly approaching strangers because you think they look interesting is a good way to get yourself into serious trouble.
no subject
In the middle of a busy cafe?
[She's also not going to mention the fact that she's fairly certain she could zap the hell out of him if he tried anything. That does tend to make her overconfident.]

no subject
Ooh, very scary. What are you gonna do, eat me up?
no subject
You, Kyna, are every stereotypical archetype that dies first in a horror movie rolled into one.

[Yes, he's even keeping his joke answers a secret. Why isn't she put off by this already?]
no subject
[Maybe she's too annoying herself to be annoyed by him.]
no subject
Aren't vampires pasty and gaunt?
[He's starting to take offense to this.]
no subject
[She's realizing, distantly, that she is making no progress with him.]
You're wearing all black and you're grumpy. You can be a vampire.
no subject
[What is even this conversation? Can he even call this a conversation? He's trying his best for it not to be one!]
What makes you think I'm this grumpy all the time? Maybe I'm especially annoyed by the company today.
no subject
[Duh.]
no subject
What if I think you're more annoying than you are cute?

[She nudges his coffee cup gently.]
Come on, give me a chance.
no subject
[This is an almost surreal experience at this point.]
no subject
Uh... I don't even know. Hang out while we finish our coffee?
no subject
[As far as Fenris is concerned, he was being quite amicable, letting her sit here and not completely ignoring her. That's how manners work. Either way, he pauses before grabbing his coffee again.]
People don't exactly stop to sit with me just to hang out.
[So it's suspicious, is what he's saying. Normally people approached him when they knew who he "worked" for, thinking he could get them some kind of in with Danarius. Or if they thought they could find out some nugget of information about his research, usually hoping to steal it for themselves.]
no subject
[Okay, that's an honest response from her.]
Why not? I mean, unless you scare everyone off. Do you?
no subject
Do you have to ask?
[The answer is "yes".]
no subject
Sorry. I guess you don't scare me. You should try harder.
no subject
It's definitely not going to work if you tell me to do it.
no subject
Oh no. Guess you're screwed.
no subject
[At least he's given up on trying to get her to leave, at the moment.]
Are you on break or something?
[Yes he is indeed asking her the same question she asked him and he completely dodged.]
no subject
[Wink wink. Maybe she's starting to have too much fun with this.]
